Indoor Climate Excellence

Building physics, or building performance modelling, is about keeping our buildings healthy and dynamic, whatever the season. Healthy buildings are correctly ventilated, well-lit and comfortable.

Bold Energy Revolution

Healthy buildings need not be greedy energy guzzlers. Building physicists work with architects and engineers to discover balance in a building's energy flows: the balance of daylight and solar gain, or the ideal choice of heating and cooling.

G is for guru!

But I don't mind if you call me a geek instead! Some might debate the guru status, but there are few who would disagree that I'm an out-and-out geek. You need to be to do this job!

Learn to code!

There are some great resources around for doing useful stuff in CAD, Excel, Databases.

There is a writer in all of us. You might not be the next J.K.Rowling, but you can write a short story. In the same way, most of us can write something useful in code - a short story that might save a day or two in the office.

Computational Fluid Dynamics

Don't ask the model, ask the modeller

If you embark on a model thinking "what's the answer?", it's important to recognise this as the start of a long learning curve. For example, the preceding image is of some Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The modeller needs good understanding of velocities and where they will occur from early on. After this then CFD can be used to fill in the details (in a nice water-colour).

Shhh....CFD actually stands for "Colour For Directors" (don't tell the directors).
